Lorraine Galvin BMus MA

Lorraine Galvin is a classically trained lyric soprano and has received a first class honours BMus Vocal Performance Degree from the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Rathmines, Dublin (now TU Dublin). Lorraine also holds an MA in Cultural Policy and Arts Management from UCD. While at UCD Lorraine was selected to partake in the prestigious Ad Astra Academy receiving a Performing Arts Scholarship. Through this scholarship Lorraine received ongoing vocal training, solo performance opportunities and music mentorship from visiting music practitioners such as NSO conductor Gavin Maloney and members of the UCD music faculty such as early music specialist Dr Desmond Earley.

 

Lorraine is a seasoned performer and was a member of the world renowned Bunratty Castle Entertainers in Bunratty Castle Co. Clare where she was a regular soprano soloist. Lorraine regularly performs for recitals, weddings and funerals in the Dublin area and nationwide. Lorraine has won many prizes for vocal performance during her studies and beyond including the DIT Leo Maguire Trophy for Irish song and the coveted DIT Gold Medal for Song Recital during her graduating year at the Conservatory of Music.

 

Lorraine on many occasions was chosen to partake in vocal master classes with both national and international opera singers such as Ann Murray, Alison Browner Celine Byrne, Nuccia Focile and Jonathan Lemalu. Lorraine has a vast exposure to music performance practice with solo and chorus performance experiences in well known venues such as the National Concert Hall Dublin, University Concert Hall Limerick and O'Reilly Hall at UCD.

In September 2015, Lorraine joined teaching staff at the Castleknock School of Music Dublin15 where she taught voice, mini music curriculum, musicianship, theory and conducted the Ready, Steady, Sing school Choir. In July 2016 Lorraine participated in the Kodály Society of Ireland Active Music Making Summer Course which specialized in early childhood music education. Lorraine currently resides in her native Limerick City where she is a singing teacher and  performs regularly for weddings and events in the Munster area.
